Media Info/About Mary Lloyd

MBL Author Photos 9.12.08 003 Mary Lloyd left an executive position in the natural gas industry two decades ago “to write fiction.”  That transition was more complicated than expected and involved a lengthy detour into writing, speaking, and teaching the basics of a better version of “retirement.”  The creation of this website marks her return to what she really loves–fiction (and her commitment to stay there).  Widow Boy  came out in 2014.  She has several other fiction projects in the works.

The retirement detour included writing  Supercharged Retirement: Ditch the Rocking Chair, Trash the Remote, and Do What You Love.  which came out in 2009 and continues to sell.  She’s still passionate about that topic, but fiction really is her first love. So there may be an occasional blog post here in that vein, but if you’re looking for “the retirement stuff” please  go to the  Mining Silver website.

Mary lives in the Pacific Northwest and enjoys new adventures, hiking, gardening, and cooking with friends and family.

IN HER OWN WORDS:

MBL on trail Why I Write…..

I’m great at doing a job until it gets easy; then I lose interest. Writing novels gives me a way to deal with that part of my personality without actually inflicting trouble on my family and friends just to keep life interesting.  Writing fiction is also gives me the chance to have any adventure I want–through the characters I create and the predicaments they get into.

I’m rotten at doing the same thing again and again, so I can’t promise you sequels (but maybe one for Widow Boy because I really like those characters).  What I can promise is my best effort to give you a story you enjoy that leaves you feeling good once you’ve read it.

I also promise that I won’t steamroller you with big promotion campaigns.   The gurus insist you have to get your name in front of people again and again, but neither of us like that so I’m not going to do it.  Please do sign up for my e-mail list.  I’ll only contact you when there’s something important to tell you—a new book coming out, that I got elected to the Senate, whatever.  I plan on posting to my blog once a week or so.  If you want to see those without checking back here all the time, use the icon to set up an RSS feed.

I live in the Puget Sound area now but grew up in the Midwest and spent 15 years in the Mountain West.  I love hiking and being outside.  I also enjoy whatever kind of dancing I can find and creating an occasional art quilt  And playing in the garden. And doing funny things with family and friends.  And doing anything with the grandkids.

You can contact me at mary@mining-silver.com.  It would be great to hear from you.
